Dining

Dining at the Eastside RestaurantWe have some wonderful Restaurants, Cafes and snack bars throughout the Northeast Kingdom –  Newport, Jay Peak Area, and Island Pond.
Here are our recommendations as to some of the best places to eat in the area.  Each of these Restaurants has supported and sponsored this Tour in one way or another.  As hard as it might be to choose, we know you’ll pace yourself.  Only one dinner each night!! But, we think you’ll be coming back for years to come, so take your pick and work your way through the list.  You’re not going to go wrong with any of these listings.

Newport Area

The Eastside Restaurant
Celebrate completion of your ride with a great, family style dinner on the shores of Lake Memphremagog at our local institution The Eastside Restaurant.  The food is great!!  On a nice afternoon or evening the deck on the water is to die for. 47 Landing St
Newport.  (802) 334-2340.

The Cow Palace
While you’re here, don’t miss the Elk Burgers and Elk Steaks at The Cow Palace in Derby Center.  A trip to the Kingdom is just not complete without a picture of you in front of the Cow Palace’s 9 foot, Alaskan, polar bear shot by Frank LaChance in 1968.  At the junction of Routes 5 and 5A in the Village of Derby Center. (802) 766-4724.

Montgomery’s Café
Enjoy breakfast or lunch in a relaxed atmosphere.  Monty’s creative menu evolves with the seasons, featuring local organically grown products. Cappuccinos, Smoothies, Daily Hot Entrees, Panini Sandwiches, Salad Bar, Freshly made Soups and Baked Goods.  Carefully prepared food served fast. You can’t beat the healthy and delicious food, served in a one of a kind unique environment.  194 Main Street, Newport  802-334-2626

The Brown Cow
Some say, it’s the best traditional breakfast in town: eggs, home fires, bacon, pancakes, french toast.  Opens at 6 am for those riders looking for a breakfast boost before a great day of riding.  East Main Street, Newport, VT

Griff’s Pub
Yes we do love our Red Sox and we do get NESN, even in the heart of the Kingdom. Follow the Sox at Griff's Pub, our local sports bar and pub just down the road from IROC.

LB Snack Bar
LB’s is our area’s slow fast food summer season snack bar.  Burgers, ribs, fried shrimp, milk shakes, you get the idea.  We don’t think that the menu has changed since the 1950’s.  To us that’s a good thing.  Newport-Derby Road.

Jay Area

Jay Peak is one of the northeast’s premier destination resorts.  And the Jay Peak Area has some fine lodging and dinning options for our participants, their friends, and families.

The Black Bear Restaurant at The Inn at Jay Village
Great Food and Great Spirits, with fresh sea food specials daily, and a fun pub atmosphere.  The Black Bear has been satisfying hungry skiers for decades.  Two very fine pool tables make for some interesting, after dinner challenges to see who foots the bill!!!  Route 242 in Jay Village.  Tel: 802-988-2306

The Lodge
A full and wonderful menu with weekend entertainment that will wake you up, even after a full dinner.  It’s a great place to stay, and stay, and stay.  Route 242 in Jay Village     Tel: 802-988-4459

The Alpine Room at the Tram Hous Lodge
If you are looking for an elegant, gourmet dinner, check out what’s been going on right at “The Mountain.”  A whole new round of construction has left us just breathless.  A new Hotel, a new year round ice skating rink, more new condos, and a wonderful new restaurant with views that will knock your socks off.  Route 242 at Jay Peak Resort     Tel: 802-988-2611
