We’ve got some great Restaurants, Cafes and snack bars throughout the Northeast Kingdom – Newport, Derby, Jay Peak Area, Barton and Island Pond.
Here are our suggestions as to some of the best places to eat in the area. Each of these Restaurants has supported IROC’s Summer Games in one way or another. As hard as it might be to choose, we know you’ll pace yourself. Only one dinner each night!! But, we think you’ll be coming back for years to come, so take your pick and work your way through the list. You’re not going to go wrong with any of these listings.

Downtown Newport
The Eastside Restaurant
Celebrate the heart of summer with a great, family style dinner on the shores of Lake Memphremagog at our local institution The EastSide Restaurant. The food is great!! On a nice afternoon or evening the deck on the water is “to die for.” Home of the Dandy Dinner, the Kingdom Rider Pasta Dinner, and the Crazy Nuts Kingdom Triathlete Pasta Dinner held on the Friday evening before IROC’s running, biking and triathlon events. 47 Landing St, Newport. (802) 334-2340.

Lago Trattoria
There’s no better mix of great food, a wonderful bar and dining room and watching Frank Richardi and his assistants work their magic at the open grill. He’ll tell you that his restaurant is the best in the area and that people travel a hundred miles or more just to eat at his place.    Is it worth the drive? Absolutely!!! Frank is a big supporter of the Summer Games and we love him for it.   95 Main Street, Newport, VT  802-334-8222

Montgomery’s Café
Enjoy breakfast or lunch in a relaxed atmosphere. “Monty’s” creative menu evolves with the seasons, featuring local organically grown products. Cappuccinos, Smoothies, Daily Hot Entrees, Panini Sandwiches, Salad Bar, Freshly made Soups and Baked Goods. Carefully prepared food served fast. You can’t beat the healthy and delicious food, served in a one of a kind unique environment. Host of the internationally famous Montgomery’s Cafe Swimmers and Yackers’ Pasta Dinner at the Gateway the night before Kingdom Swim. We love these folks. You will too. 194 Main Street, Newport 802-334-2626

Le Belvedere
The best views up the lake.  Vero and Jason have taken dining in Newport to a new level.  Sushi on Thursday.  Pasta on Wednesdays.  Fondu on Sundays.  Fine dining all week with a Tapas menu for those of us who like to nibble on something elegantly prepared.  This was a favourite of our Kingdom Riders in 2011  100 Main Street, Newport.  802-487-9147

Baan Thai Cuisine
Our area’s newest Asian restaurant offers lunch 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and dinner 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm five days a week from Wednesday to Sunday.   In their words, “Our delicate and unique flavors, prepared by Chef Rasamy Poulima, will tantalize your palette through aromatic dishes like Tom Kha soup, Pad Thai, Green Curry Shrimp or Mango and Sticky Rice.”  We’re hungry for Thai just writing this up.  158 Main Street, Newport, VT  802-334-8833.

Distinctive and wonderful pizza, keeps us coming back week after week and year after year. Plus Plus some great chicken parmesan, spaghetti and meatballs, chef's salad. Oh, and I love the garlic bread. Right in downtown Newport, as well as up on the Derby Road, (and Lyndon, Morrisville, and Essex Ctr.) Eat in or take out. Nothing like a Hoagies' pizza by lakeside, at least in my book.

Griff's Pub
One excellent sports bar. Yes we get NESN in the Kingdom and we love to follow our Red Sox We won't hold it against Griff that he's an avid Packers fans. Patriots show up just as big on their TV's. Great eats and good spirits. A varied menu, wonderful sandwiches and burgers and the Chilli is particularly "stimulating." Televisions all around and, of course, a couple of pool tables. 125 Main Street (back entrance), Newport, VT  802-334-5233

Habenero’s Mexican Grill
The newest addition to Newport’s downtown eating scene.  It’s great to have Mexican food available downtown.  If you like Tacos, Fajitas, Burritos, we don’t have a Taco Bell here, we have Habenero’s.  137 Main Street, Newport, VT  802-334-5502

The Brown Cow
Some say it’s the best old school breakfast in town: eggs, home fires, bacon, pancakes, french toast. Makes us hungry just writing this. Opens at 6 am for those looking for a breakfast boost before a great day and serves breakfast until they close at 2:00 pm. 900 East Main Street, Newport, VT  802-334-7887

Newport Derby Road
The Cow Palace
While you’re here, don’t miss the Elk Burgers and Elk Steaks at The Cow Palace in Derby Center. (If you don’t want to eat Elk, you can watch them graze out back of the Palace. A trip to the Kingdom is just not complete without a picture of you in front of the Cow Palace’s 9 foot, Alaskan, polar bear shot by Frank LaChance in 1965. At the junction of Routes 5 and 5A in the Village of Derby Center. (802) 766-4724.

LB Snack Bar
LB’s is our area’s slow fast food summer season snack bar. Burgers, ribs, fried shrimp, milk shakes, you get the idea. We don’t think that the menu has changed since the 1950’s. To us that’s a good thing. Newport-Derby Road.

Jay Area
Jay Peak is one of the northeast’s premier destination resorts. And the Jay Peak Area has some fine lodging and dining options for our participants, their friends, and families.

The Bridge at Cedarwood Resort
A full and wonderful menu with weekend entertainment that will wake you up, even after a full dinner. It’s a great place to stay, and stay, and stay. And to our way of thinking, it’s the most comfortable, Vermont lodge atmosphere you’re going to find. Cedarwood is also home to Kingdom Thunder a motor cycle rally at the end of August. Now that’s a party!!! Route 242 in Jay Village Tel: 802-988-4459

Alice’s Table at the Tram House Lodge
If you are looking for an elegant, gourmet dinner, check out what’s been going on right at “The Mountain.” A whole new round of construction has left us just breathless. A new Hotel, a new year round ice skating rink, more new condos, and a wonderful new restaurant with views that will knock your socks off. Route 242 at Jay Peak Resort Tel: 802-988-2611

The Black Bear Restaurant at The Jay Village Inn
Great Food and Great Spirits, with fresh sea food specials daily, and a fun pub atmosphere. The Black Bear has been satisfying hungry skiers for decades. Two very fine pool tables make for some interesting, after dinner challenges to see who foots the bill!!! Route 242 in Jay Village. Tel: 802-988-2306
