Kingdom Swim 2013
Important Information as of 6-18-13

Start Times and Waves
We have compressed all 10 milers into one wave starting at 8:00 am from the line in the sand at Prouty Beach.  10 mile Yackers will deploy at 7:45.  That moves the 6 mile start to 8:30 am and the 3 mile start to 9:00 am with their yackers deploying 25 minutes prior to the start of their particular wave.
The afternoon swims, 1 mile, 1/4 mile, and 100 yard will be starting right around 2:00 pm.
Award Ceremony is at 3:30 pm

We will have three divisions in each course.  Skins, wet suit, and assisted.  Skins must follow traditional channel crossing rules.  Wet suits are any suit or wet suit that does not comport with those rules.  Assisted includes equipment used to assist the swimmer such as a snorkel or flippers.  This third division is all new.  It arose out of the needs of a dedicated swimmer who injured his neck and needs to use a snorkel to breath.  We have decided to allow flippers in this division as well, in recognition of my own sordid past.  We will watch how this works to make sure that this new division does not interfere with the successful functioning of the other two divisions.  Our goal, to hold a world class, world championship employing time honored rules of dress, at the same time encouraging swimmers young and old to take to the water and swim any way that works for them.

Boat Cruises – Northern Star, the new boat in town, has agreed to offer up two cruises of the 10 mile course on Friday afternoon.  The first leaves at noon, the second at 3:00 pm.  Each cruise lasts about an hour and a half.  Cost is $15 per person.  It’s a great way to see the lake, see the course, and enjoy yourselves with fellow swimmers and yackers and family members.  Capacity is 49 per cruise.  Please make your reservations directly with Cap’n Chris Johansen by e-mailing or calling (802)-487-0234  The Northern Star leaves and returns from the Newport City Docks close by The Gateway Center in down town Newport.  It’s where we have early registration and sign in on Friday starting at noon and where we have our Swimmers and Yackers pasta dinner at 7:00 pm
